


Snapshots of Early Modern History
Snapshots of Early Modern History is secular, inclusive, world history curriculum aimed covering history from 1550 to 1850 CE. Since so many important events happened in this era of history, our Early Modern level is divided into two volumes.
Snapshots of Early Modern History Vol. 1 is aimed at 3rd to 7th grade students covering history from 1550 to 1765 CE. It contains 36 chapters divided into 18 sections of related topic pairs. In Early Modern History Vol. 1, Mona and Ted visit places like colonial America, the British Empire, Qing China, the Japanese Warring States Period, the Jamaican Maroons, the Ottoman Empire, Caribbean pirates, the Kongo Empire, and so much more!
Snapshots of Early Modern History Vol. 2 is aimed at 4th to 8th grade students covering history from 1765 to 1850 CE. It contains 36 chapters divided into 18 sections of related topic pairs. In Early Modern History Vol. 2, Mona and Ted explore events like the unification of Hawaii; the American, French, Haitian, Mexican, and Bolivarian Revolutions; the rise and fall of Napoleon; the growth of the Abolition Movement; the Industrial Revolution; the rise of the middle class; the Opium Wars in China; the creation of the Zulu Empire; the Irish Potato Famine and so much more!
Early Modern history is a complete curriculum for one to two years. For a one year study, both volumes can be completed by studying one section (containing two chapters) per week. For a two year study, complete one volume each year by studying one chapter per week.

Culture Corners
Curiosity Chronicles teaches interdisciplinary history. To make sure we can deliver on the many exciting cultural developments of this era, a new section called Culture Corners have added after every few chapters beginning in Snapshots of Early Modern History Vol. 1.
In each Culture Corner, Arthur and Lily highlight an important artist, writer, scientist, musician or art style. Some of the topics covered in the Culture Corners in the Early Modern level include William Shakespeare, Nicolaus Copernicus, Japanese Theater, Qing Painting, Native American Beadwork, Isaac Newton, Phillis Wheatley, the Haka, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Mary Wollstonecraft, African Masks, Sequoya, Edgar Allan Poe, and more!

Visual Walkthrough of Section 3: Control vs. Liberty in Eastern Europe
Day 1: Study the Chapter
Day 2: Reinforce and Deepen Learning
Review vocabulary and comprehension questions from the chapter. Cover geography as well by completing accompanying map work. Assemble the timeline and more.
Then select 1–2 supplemental books about the chapter. For this chapter, some options include a beautifully illustrated book about the Russian folklore figure Baba Yaga and a biography about Ivan the Terrible.
Day 3: Study the Next Chapter
Learn about King Jadwiga, (the female King of Poland), the creation of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, the foundation of democratic the Golden Liberty, and the famed Polish cavalry the Winged Hussars.
Then read or listen to the Culture Corner about Nicolaus Copernicus and the invention of a sun-centered solar system model.
Day 4: Reinforce and Deepen Learning
Review vocabulary and comprehension questions from the chapter. Cover geography as well by completing accompanying map work. Assemble the timeline and more.
Then select 1–2 supplemental books about the chapter. For this chapter, some options include a selection of Polish folktales, an illustrated biography of Nicolaus Copernicus, or a fun illustrated overview of changing astronomy
Day 5: Hands-On Learning and Summing It Up
Complete one hands-on activity and the lapbook elements for both chapters.
Select a hands-on activity from multiple options. One option for this chapter is a craft activity to create your own onion domes. Another option is to explore naked-eye astronomy like Nicolaus Copernicus.
The Minecraft building prompt guides students through building St. Basil’s Catherdral.
For the lapbooks, add to your Europe lapbook by completing a short book about Ivan the Terrible, a petal book about the democratic principles of the Golden Liberty, and a Culture Corner card on Nicolaus Copernicus.

Then select 1–2 supplemental books about the chapter. One of the options for this chapter is an informational overview with hands-on activities about Latino history.
Day 3: Study the Next Chapter
Learn about how Simon Bolivar’s liberation campaigns in northern South America and Jose San Martin’s campaign in southern South America met in the middle to liberate the continent. See the countries that emerged from these revolutions.
Then read or listen to the Culture Corner about the Cusco School, a South American art style that emerged from European religious art and transformed into a unique proud South American style.

Review vocabulary and comprehension questions from the chapter. Cover geography as well by completing accompanying map work. Assemble the timeline and more.
Then select 1–2 supplemental books about the chapter. For this chapter, some options include a picture book biography of Simon Bolivar and a series of short biographies about famous Latina women.
Day 5: Hands-On Learning and Summing It Up
Complete one hands-on activity and the lapbook elements for both chapters.
Select a hands-on activity from multiple options. One option for this chapter is a textual analysis project examining the preambles of several South American constitutions. Another option is an art project painting a Cusco School-inspired painting about the Bolivarian Revolutions.
The Minecraft building prompt guides student’s through building the Plaza Bolivar.
For the lapbooks, add to your South American lapbook with accordian fold books about Simon Bolivar and Jose San Martin. Then assemble a puzzle about the steps to South American independence. Add a flap book about the independence of each South American country.
